LLOYD KNIGHT IN BRAVE GENTLEMAN

LLOYD KNIGHT IN BRAVE GENTLEMAN

We're in awe of Lloyd Knight in Brave GentleMan footwear! Knight is a principal dancer for the world renowned Martha Graham Dance Company and a Guest Artist at the Royal Ballet of Flanders. Knight is photographed by Travis Chantar, styled by Randa Eid in Brave GentleMan footwear and select vintage and deadstock apparel.

When asked by Brave GentleMan founder Joshua Katcher about how dance influences his modeling, Knight said that, "Dance brings an awareness of everything your body is doing at a particular moment. You can be completely in or out of control depending on what you're trying to portray. It’s fun to find the freedom in the whole body while making sure the main focus is on the shoes."

JOSHUA KATCHER: What do you wish more people understood about dance?

LLOYD KNIGHT: How much effort it takes to do what we do. Dancers should really be put on and treated on the same platform as any footballer or professional athlete.

JK: What goes through your mind while you’re performing?

LK: Freedom! It’s my time after so much rehearsals and notes, and I can be free with my imagination.

JK: What do you bring from your dance discipline into your everyday life?

LK: The magical word discipline. Since I was little I was put on a schedule and had to be responsible for what I needed to do to get what I wanted. So now I would like to think I’m pretty organized and go for my goals and level headed because I have the arts in my life.

JK: How would you describe your personal style?

LK: I love vintage clothes! Depending on the day I’m totally cool with wearing a sweater and jeans and the next day playing dress up and getting all “fancy”.

JK: What’s your most vivid childhood memory?

LK: Just always being at home with my parents, they always played music and would dance around. It was so much fun!

JK: What song do you have on repeat, what book blew you away and where would you want to travel if you could leave right now?

LK: I’ve discovered “vertigo/ relight my fire” by Dan Hartman. I always wished I was around in the 70s and 80s and this is that total vibe! I haven’t finished it yet but I’m halfway thru Cicely Tysons autobiography Just as I Am…. Beyond inspiring! I would love to be in France right now, it holds a special place in my heart.
