A STRIKING BALANCE: EMBASSY'S WINTER 2020 COLLECTION

Think about your favorite winter coat. Is it something you’ve had for years? Was it passed down from your dad? Was it a puffer that made you feel powerful or a parka that just worked really damn well? Maybe it was a holiday gift that someone saved up to get you or a treasure you spotted in a thrift shop.

There’s something nostalgic about winter coats — we learn the comfort of soft density, the safety of shelter, the placement of pockets and sounds of zips and snaps as if they were our winter skin. They protect us and so much happens in them since they are worn most days through the colder months.

The entire collection is made of 93-95% recycled and/or sustainable materials.

Embassy sourceD the very first high-quality future-fur; a 100% recycled P.E.T. shearling with an amazing hand-feel.

That’s what I started thinking about when I looked at EMBASSY OF BRICKS AND LOGS’ new 2020 winter collection. I thought about being a kid wrapped up in fleecy armor.

Good feelings in fashion can mislead, though. Sometimes the handsomeness of a coat will camouflage the awful way it was made and the systems funded when we buy it. What I love about Embassy’s mission is that they are striving to make coats more responsibly each season, incorporating organic and recycled materials, working with and visiting the factories to ensure fair labor standards, never sourcing from animals and building things to last.

Instead of claiming perfection, they ask us to be ambassadors on this journey toward a sustainable, fair and circumfaunal fashion industry. And for them, it’s more than just marketing; they have set out achievable policy goals like putting out collections made entirely of sustainable materials by 2023 and establishing additional third-party certifications like Fair Wear and Fairtrade by 2025, in addition to the PETA-certificate they already hold .

This new collection will be available in early September. Get an alert as soon as it’s ready by signing up for their newsletter.

The new collection achieves a striking balance; chic enough to stand out, but neutral enough to adapt to most looks. Drawing inspiration from workwear and sport, military functionality and a streetwear sense of freshness.
