Fashion's Night Out

veganJoshua Katcher

On Thursday the 8th, I set up my Brave GentleMan mini pop-up shop in the Lower East Side at MooShoes along with Vaute CoutureCri De Coeur. The event was hosted by the queen of the glamazons Chloe Jo Davis of Girlie Girl Army, featuring fare from Dun-Well Doughnuts, Blossom Du Jour, The Vegan Vine wine, & Sherry’s Short Cakes and had lip-smacking giveaways from the awesome, new vegan cosmetics company, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics.

Spotted in the crowd was one Revered Jeff of Well Oiled Machine wearing none other than the Gucci rubber loafers. I tried to steal them, but my fingers got zapped like the witch in the Wizard of Oz when she tries to steal Dorthea's ruby slippers. Ow. Jeff wrote a pretty accurate and entertaining account of the evening, so without further adieu:

Fashion’s Night Out: Veg Style Lower Eastside NYC by Reverend Jeff

So VampirAnna’s “fake charity” (coined by Gawker) has come into its 3rd year of profitless excess of champers and minimal snacks. Yes, I may sound bitter, but it is kinda fun, but I’m old and unable to hold my bubbly long enough to make it everything I should, but I make it to what I must! This time, Moo Shoes. Yes. Moo Shoes. Unsexy name? Would you feel as self-satisfyingly smug saying “I got these fabulous boots at Moo Shoes!” as opposed to “…Opening Ceremony!” Some might. Most fashion-ee types would not. I love going to shops like Odin or parties at the Hotel Chelsea and having hot boys tell me how they like my Novacas boots and ask where they can pick up a pair! I say “Moo Shoes” and get a blank stare, granted that could be their normal face! I then have to jam it in farther “…and they’re not made with any leather!”  BANG!! The head nods and the puzzled smile comes up every time!

Moo Shoes is not on the typical NYC fashionist’s radar, but it has started to market wares that have made my fashion insider compatriots curious, with Olsenhaus, Novacas, and Matt and Nat in stock. This Thursday Moo Shoes hosted Brave GentleMan, Vaute Couture, The Vegan Vine wine, Sherry’s Short Cakes, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, and Dun-Well Doughnuts for the 3rd annual Fashion’s Night Out. I snagged shoes from The Brave and Gentle Man and a coat from Vaute Couture. Now all I need is pants, undies, socks, and a shirt, but I got a good start. Tho honestly, after all the wine and the faux gras doughnuts, who cares about pants, right?

Spotted in the crowd was some of the hottest who’s who in the NYC veg scene. Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart of Vaute Couture, Joshua Katcher of the Discerning Brute and Brave GentleMan, Chloe Jo Davis of Girly Girl Army (and so much more), the cutest Breeee-anna (forgot to fact check her name) and a noted Grande Dame of the vegan lifestyle, the gorgeous and AWESOME Ashley Lou Smith, also the wife and sweet influence on the AMAZING Dan Piraro of Bizarro!!! And making a late, and somewhat frazzled entrance, the totally cute Dun-Well Doughnut boys. I was grabbing up 3 doughnuts for 2 patrons and a Leanne at the front and got a judging “Are those all for you?!” from one of the boys. Sweetie, you are not my 4th grade school teacher (wink) . But you do have something the world craves, so one day I may indeed consume 3 of your Dun-wells at once at the expense of others. I may feel guilty, but I will feel more satisfied. Hmmmm…..

By the bye, did I mention that they now have animal-free Doc Martins at Moo Shoes! My brain popped a vessel from too much joy hitting it all at once!

I got a new camera lens and the pics looked good on my LCD display. But alas, so soft. Here are the pics!

Photos, from top: Brave & gentle stuff, Joshua & Breee-anna, The Awesome Faux Gras Dun-Well Doughnut. Looks icky, but was AMAZING, Grande Dame Ashley Lou & Sherry's Short Cakes! Got this pic right before they were gone!

Personal Service! Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart of Vaute Couture fixin' up the folks in her gorgeous manteaux.
