Above the Bar. Tie-bars and tie-slides are both functional and handsome. It keeps your tie in place, prevents it from blowing in the wind and dipping into your drink or plate of food, and best of all, it looks good. Vintage and thrift stores, flea markets, and even your gramp’s closet tend to be full of them, and they’re usually affordable when you get them used. It’s one of the few pieces of mens jewelry that I think most guys who wear ties should warm up to. I recommend wearing your tie-clip between 6″ and 8″ below your neckline, in the center of your sternum.  The width of your tie bar should always be equal to or slightly smaller than your tie – never wider.

Here are some of my picks from GILT Groupe today – these are items that are sometimes difficult to find in non-animal textiles. I love the cotton moleskin blazer from Buckler, the padded-cotton peacoat from Steve Alan.  Also, the handsome  bamboo kitchen supplies are. Gilt is member-only, click here for your invite.
